Wow, I can't believe how cruel some people can be. Even if you showed the dog to prove how people walk by suffering....take the wee animal to the vet, and try to help him recover. The artist stated that...well, the dog would of died anyway...Is this artist a vet?
Why not try to save the animal...he already looks pitiful enough to prove the point, without the slow suffering of starvation!

esto es para terra mia que escribio un comentario, no se cuando pero hace mucho sobre dos perros que habian atacado a una chica de 25 años y otros a un indigente.. no se que querias probar explicando eso pero bueno en fin para tu informacion que los perros hayan atacado a esas personas es culpa del dueño es el quien los crio de esa forma, los entreno para atacar y para defender el territorio, te lo digo nada mas en caso de que quieras saberlo ya que me doy cuenta de que no sos una gran conocedora del comportamiento animal. y si, tenes razon, miles de perros y personas mueren de inanicion todos los dias, pero creo que matar a un perro de esa forma frente a otros sadicos que lo miraban en forma impasiva sin hacer nada tampoco es la solucion para que esto deje de pasar y si, hay que preocuparse, querida, porque este "señor" lo hizo en nombre del arte, siendo una gran muestra de sadismo. Y de onda querida: LA PROXIMA VEZ EL QUE PUEDA ESTAR ATADO AHI SERA UN INDIGENTE O PEOR, UNA CRIATURA.Y no le van a decir nada total al indigente nadie lo va a reclamar, o a la criatura tampoco, asi como paso como el perro. there is no excuse for this whatsoever. if this artists arguments were true, would it then be acceptable to tie a child up from a desperate background, and then watch it starve to death on the flimsy pretext that it would have "died anyway", and this is a way of highlighting its plight and the "hypocrisy" of those who let it happen? There is a point - one hopes - to being a human being, and an essential aspect of this is to not witness suffering without being moved to do something about it. This so-called "art" is no more than sensation-seeking pornography of the most base kind: a sordid, trans-species snuff movie. If you are so inhumane, desensitized and morally bankrupt as to think this is ok, remember a dire warning from another time and another place - "if you tolerate this, you know your children will be next." Vargas should get his self-promoting head out of his own self-indulgent, hypocritical and pretentious backside. And worse, what kind of gallery staged this sick sideshow, and what kind of public came to view it?

the artist brings up an interesting point in that the dog would have died in the streets anonymously had he not brought it to the art gallery to raise public awareness, but I feel there are better ways of raising public awareness about the plight of street dogs.
It is just unspeakably sad what people are prepared to do in the name of art, just to get their 5 min of fame!!!!
I would realy!!! like to sign the petition, but I can not find the English version - unfortunatly my Spanish is not good enough and I would like to understand what I'm signing.

If this person truly believes that starvation has a place within art then he should choose to starve himself. The man has no connection with reality and nature. I pity him but not before I pity all the starving creatures in the world today, animal and human.
If you say that you wanted to bring to attention the plight of these poor animals; there has to be a more humane way of doing it then the way you have. It is sick to take advantage of a poor animal's plight in the name of art. You could have helped that dog. I hope you will use some of the proceeds from the sale and exhibition of your art to help other animals.

I'd like to put you in a tomato farm and photograph you while you pick tomatos for Americans, but can't eat anything yourself, baking in the hot Florida sun. That sounds like a nice art project.

To be honest, I'm very indifferent. At first,i was outraged, furious and upset, but as I think about it, I kind of understand.
I am an art student and have come to realize how much of an impact that art can be on an audience. I don't know if Guillermo's point was to outrage the audience or to make them really open their eyes. There is so much shit in this world that we all take for granted, whether we want to believe it or not. That's how our being has come to be. It's like we lead ourselves to self-destruction and bring down innocense with it. Many are more willing to take than give. A great deal of people blow off things that think are significant and superior to themselves.
Personally, I don't think I would ever do a thing like that. We shouldn't determine what lives and dies. That's not our responsibility. We do however, have a choice to help, which many people decide to ignore. It's sad.

I also question if the first world approach to capturing dogs off the street and killing them after impounding them in cages for 2 weeks any more humane than letting them wander and starve, fending for themselves.
Responsiblity for our animal charges is at question here. Does killing them after 2 weeks while they are still fat seem any more humane than letting them starve to death. Hmm I dont know the answer to this question.
But what I do know..don't invite me to an exhibition where a dog is starving to death because it wont be there after I leave. (It will in my home being nurse back to health or loved until death takes her...with respect.)

I already signed a petition deploring what you did, but I want to say this: IF your reason was as you stated, the intent is perhaps noble and/or decent. HOWEVER, if you're as smart as you'd like to be, you can figure out other ways to do that. No living creature should be in a place where help could be offered and it's not. You wouldn't do that to a person to demonstrate the same, would you? Starve someone or rape someone? Then please don't ever do it again to any living being...human or animal...and make your humanitarian point some other, more kind and more loving way. The images of that sweet, innocent dog in such pain made me want to retch.

I am outraged that this man was allowed to intentionally starve this dog to death and that the museum allowed their facility to be used as a death chamber. The persons who came to see this "exhibit" are no less guilty. It has been well documented that people who are capable of this kind of cruelty to animals have the same capacity to harm humans as well. estoy de acuerdo en que vemos a los pobres perros en la calle y nunca los alimentamos ni les damos un minuto de nuestro tiempo, realmente no nos interesa, y cuando en un espacio blanco lo vemos sentimos ternura y compacion... creo que la fotma en que el quiso expresarse no fue la correcta, ese pobre perro no tenia que pagar por nuestra indiferencia hacia los animales, creo que hay maneras mas inteligentes y menos apaticas de expresarse, pero a mi en lo personal esto me hiso pensar en lo indiferente que soy al ver un animal callejero, deberiamos ser mas compasivos cuando podemos realmente hacer algo.

supongo que cuando se es un artista mediocre con poquito talento se tiene que recurrir a esto para que alguien hable de ti, le propongo que la próxima vez se ate a si mismo y se deje morir de hambre y así habra conseguido hacer la única cosa "artística" de su vida.
Acaso no es lo que cada uno de nosotros hace diariamente. Esta obra nos hace ver y nos confirma que todos somos unos hipocritas. Cauntos de ustedes se preocupa o se ha preocupado alguna vez en su vida por un animal callejero? Esta propuesta fue cruel, inhumana, insensible, etc... Exactamente lo que somos cada uno de nosotros. Guillermo escogio ser el protagonista del papel que participamos dia tras dia. Talvez esta brutalidad nos demuestre y abra los ojos de la socidad y animales como estos tengan un poco de esperanza. Es posible que esto no sea arte, pero tambien es cierto que muchos de nosotros no hacemos conciencia de los demas animales que mueren de hambre en las calles, por que facil es hacer una critica de alguien que se atreve a hacer una denuncia como la que hizo guillermo habacuc vargas. Hagamos conciencia de esto y si no nos gusto lo que se vio en la galeria de arte ayudemos a los animales que se encuentran en las calles muriendose de hambre.

Este tipo se hizo famoso, qué triste forma de lograrlo, una fama a cuesta de una vida inocente. Algún día tendrá que darle cuentas al Creador, y si existe justicia, más temprano que tarde ese mal nacido tendrá su castigo terrenal, ya que somos miles los que estamos en contra de barbaries como ésta, y sé que muchos estaríamos dispuestos a darle su merecido. No puedo dejar de comentar además que tan monstruoso como este tipo, es ver retratada la indiferencia de la gente que asistió al macabro espectáculo. Qué pena que el ser humano cada día pierda más sus valores y nos quedemos con menos capacidad de asombrarnos ante eventos tan horribles como éste.
El Arte es la manifestación más sublime del ser humano, expresada a través de la música, la pintura, las letras...ésto, señor Habacuc, es basura, es mediocridad, es el reflejo de que usted es un pobre de espíritu, que no tiene talentos para destacar en el medio y debe recurrir a esta clase de hechos que distan lejos de un artista y más aún de un ser humano.
